Protection

The main reason for a server is business protection. As businesses develop files are often kept on peoples workstations leaving them open to failure due to virus attack and hardware failure. Worse, the computer could be involved in theft, be subject to malicous activity or be caught in a fire. Any such occurance could mean an end to your business due to lost client or business information and even lead to fines and prosecution. A proper server protects your business by collecting all your vital business data. It restricts access and then backs up your data locally on a rolling basis. For protection against the most severe threats it then copies your data offsite to a secure remote location.

Viruses

Whilst we continue to connect our computers to other computers viruses will remain. The more people have a particular operating system, the more those viruses will spread. Microsoft Windows is the current platform for catching the most viruses. Should your files be kept on your microsoft workstation the chances are that within 2 years you will be compromised either by trojan software, malicious code or a virus. Large corporations protect against this with strong network security and expensive equipment and still they catch viruses. The best way to avoid the problem is to split you files from your windows computers and secure them away remotely... on a server. This helps because the server running quietly in the corner will not catch a virus, will protect you from data loss and will allow you to access your files from another machine whilst your trusty desktop is getting reloaded. It will also backup your files daily and send them off remotely for retrieval in the most dire case of data loss.

Fire

Computers get destroyed by fire and data then gets very difficult to retrieve and very expensive. And thats if your lucky. Computers can also catch fire as dust builds up within and faults can surface. Whilst this is rare, it happens and a server can save you from fire becuase whilst you slept it backed up all your files to a secure remote location that didn't burn down with your office, shed, garage or car.

Theft

If you computer is stolen how can you replace your files? Servers can save you in three ways. Firstly they can be installed in a locked location. This makes theft of your important data more difficult. Secondly The files you work on should be located on the server and not on that laptop or desktop that just got stolen from the office. Thirdly, Even though all your computer equipment was stolen the server backedup all your files to a remote location for recovery to a new machine. you might have lost your data, but your business can continue.

Hardware Failure

Computers last about 3 to 5 years on average and in that time something might fail. All our servers are built with redundancy and backup solutions so that should a hard disk fail, the other one has a copy, and should that fail another computer has a copy of that....

Malicious Staff

Staff can get very unpleasant very quickly. That star employee that you've had for a year suddenly gets a grudge and deletes your files. A server protects you through backups. roll back a week, a month or a day, recover the files that the employee deleted or edited and carry on as though nothing had happened.
